Dogs on leashes, organics collection and gathering restrictions are all on tap for today’s (mon) City Council meeting. Council will vote on whether or not to allow leashed pets in Kiwanis Park along the South Saskatchewan River. Currently a bylaw prohibits pets from the downtown park. A bylaw change to allow leashed pets in Kiwanis Park was passed at the committee level earlier this month.
Council is expected to hear from city administration on the feasibility of implementing gathering restrictions within the City of Saskatoon. If directed so, administration would draft a bylaw surrounding gathering restrictions and would report back to City Council for consideration. Mayor Charlie Clark pitched a motion last week to seek whether or not the City could look into creating its own bylaw surrounding gathering limits. Earlier this month, the City wrote a letter to the province asking for a public health order that would cap the number people able to attend both public and private gatherings, however the request was rejected.
Then council will be asked to vote on whether or not to roll with the utility model for organics collection when the program rolls out in January 2023. Last week the governance and priorities committee voted in favour of this along with providing variable rates for residents when it comes to garbage collection starting in 2024.
