City Council will consider a bylaw surrounding gathering restrictions in Saskatoon during a special meeting this afternoon (fri).
The bylaw, if adopted would prohibit the unvaccinated and the partially vaccinated from gathering together in a dwelling other than their own.
Those who are fully vaccinated would be able to gather with one other fully vaccinated household, including families with children under 12 who aren’t yet eligible for receiving their COVID shots.
Events such as weddings and funerals hosted a public venues would be reduced to 25 per cent capacity if there is no proof of vaccination policy. If there is such a policy, the restrictions would not apply.
The City says enforcement of the bylaw would have to be through contracted security given that City staff conducting inspection and enforcement are already preoccupied with other work and don’t have the appropriate training.
A report heading to council today (fri) says costs tied to having contracted enforcement would be $23,400 dollars a month based based on three contract staff available for 12 hours a day, seven days a week at $30 an hour each.
