One person has been displaced because of a house fire in the 900 block of Avenue L North. The Saskatoon Fire Department has closed the house due to the lack of utilities, fire damage and the extreme accumulation of items, and and the Fire Investigator will be issuing orders requiring a clean up of the inside and outside, and a separate order for repairs to the building.
Emergency crews responded to a report of smoke and flames coming from a home just after 9:30 this morning. The Fire Department says due to an extreme accumulation of items inside and outside, it was more challenging for firefighters, and it was difficult to get to the origin of the fire. The Fire Investigator says there were many contributing factors to the fire. The utilities weren’t in service, so someone was using a barrel to burn things in a bedroom for heat.
Extremely congested conditions with the amount of items inside contributed to the spread of the fire and its challenge in being extinguished. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
