Following Saturday’s second place-clinching victory over Edmonton, head coach Craig Dickenson hinted that three or four regulars would not play in the final regular-season game in Hamilton.
Following Tuesday’s first preparation practice, Dickenson said the Saskatchewan Roughriders are going to rest quarterback Cody Fajardo, receiver Duke Williams, defensive lineman Micah Johnson and centre Dan Clark against the Tiger-Cats. And, there could be more players out as defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy, linebacker Micah Teitz and offensive lineman Brett Boyko are dealing with injuries. That means Isaac Harker will start at quarterback and is expected to get majority of the reps in the game, according to Dickenson. Jamal Morrow will start at running back, while handling the return duties. William Powell is not expected to have a big role this game. Rashard Davis will play for Williams and will be the secondary returner.
Earlier today, Williams was named the C-F-L’s top performer of the week, with linebackers Darnell Sankey of Calgary and Henoc Muamba of Toronto also recognized. Williams had his first game with more than 100 receiving yards since returning to the C-F-L Saturday against Edmonton. He had eight receptions for 146 yards, marking the 14th 100-plus yard game of his career, and his first touchdown of the season.
