The winners of this year’s USask EcoHack event is up to you. A panel of judges on the weekend honed the list of projects down to three.
EcoHack is about finding solutions to one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which is inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable communities. The City of Saskatoon partnered with the university on the event, so students could build on existing work in this area. The City’s director of sustainability, Jeanna South, says this type of partnership is critical to advancing climate action.
The three projects are an app that directs grocery buyers to stores with discounted goods nearing the end of their shelf life, the idea of a recycling plan needed for a construction permit, and a virtual hub to make people more aware of what programs are out there to improve the safety and sustainability of housing for middle and low income households.

The winning team will receive a $1,000 grand prize. Second and third place teams receive $500 each.
