Both the provincial and federal governments have announced that funding will be provided to licensed child care facilities that will see out-of-pocket child care fees cut in half on average for parents. This is retroactive to July 1st of this year. In a news release, the Government of Saskatchewan says this is the first step towards reaching the 2025-26 goal of, on average, $10 a day licensed child care in Saskatchewan for children ages 0-5. Canada’s Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, Karina Gould says “Our government’s goal is to ensure that in five years, all families, no matter where they live, will have access to regulated early learning and child care for an average of $10 a day.” The province says all families with children under the age of six who are in provincially licensed child care are eligible to receive the parent fee reduction grant, which will range from up to $306 a month depending on the age of the child and the type of child care. Funding will be supplied directly to licensed facilities and will be used to reduce parent fees.
