Sask Polytechnic and five other post-secondary institutions across Canada to become the Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator Network.
A news release from the new network cites that the directive is to modernize mining and improve its productivity and environmental performance, strengthen the Canadian mineral supply chain, and increase the domestic and export sales of Canadian innovators.
The MICA initiative is expected to extend the operation lives of existing mines and reduce the time it takes to bring new mineral deposits into production.
Funding is provided by the federal government’s Strategic Innovation Fund.
