The Government of Saskatchewan, like it did for hospitals, is going to create a 50 metre safe access zone outside of schools.
The Education Act is being amended in anticipation of a vaccine rollout for children age 5 to 11 years.
The province says this will ensure families can access schools harassment free. Education Minister Dustin Duncan said, “In particular it is important to ensure our children do not feel scared or threatened.”
The goal is to prevent sidewalk protests or interference near schools that could potentially cause obstructions delays or harassing behavior for people entering and leaving school.
The zones could be extended to 150 metres if necessary and lawful labor picketing will still be allowed within the safe access zones.
