The Saskatchewan Health Authority says a high volume of traffic caused the online booking system for COVID-19 vaccinations slow down, as the province began taking appointments for children ages five to 11. Between 8am and 1pm, more than 12,000 appointments were booked for pediatric vaccinations.
The appointments begin in Regina and Saskatoon on Wednesday, followed by smaller communities on Thursday and in the far north on Friday. The SHA advises that once clinics are available in your area, group appointments for siblings or families can be made by calling the SaskVax line, and parents can get their shots at the same time. Information on in-school clinics will be shared with parents and students directly.
Pediatric vaccines will also be available from indigenous Services Canada, Northen Inter-Tribla Health Authority and participating pharmacies. Information on which pharmacies will be updated when they have received their supply. As of today (Tues), 87 per cent of Saskatchewan residents 12 and over have received their first dose and 80 per cent are fully vaccination.
There are a variety of options for immunizations. The SHA has a list of all locations on its website. The walk-in clinic schedule will indicate Pfizer 5-11 where the pediatric vaccine is available. Otherwise, appointments can be made through the SASKVAX line at 1-833-SASKVAX, which is 1-833-727-5829.
