Premier Scott Moe is off today (mon) on an 11 day trade mission to Japan and South Korea. He wants to attract investment and advance Saskatchewan’s trade interests. The trip will also include a stop in Hong Kong to meet with investors. Joining the premier will be the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership, several of its members companies, as well a Canpotex, Cameco, and Mosaic. Representatives of both universities, Sask Polytechnic, the International Carbon Capture and Storage Knowledge Centre, VIDO, and the CLS will also be there. The province says that a key focus of the trip will be promoting our agriculture and agri-food products. In 2018, Saskatchewan exports to Asia were valued at $8.5 billion.
In June, Federal trade Minister Jim Carr led a trade mission to Japan and South Korea. Saskatchewan Trade and Export Minister Jeremy Harrison was on that trip. Special emphasis was placed on canola sales, considering the suspension of ales to China. Harrison said at the time that the trading climate has greatly improved in Japan and South Korea following recent trade agreements.
