Once the new James Smith Cree Nation Medical Clinic opens next year, it will be home to Saskatoon’s first private MRI. The new clinic which is expected to open in February will have one MRI, one CT, five ultrasounds and one x-ray machine. The new facility was originally scheduled to open up this fall, although Dragan Racic Vice-President of Operations at the Medical Clinic says the machines require additional power meaning that more electrical work has to be done before the facility can open. The James Smith Cree Nation Medical Clinic also announced a new agreement with Saskatchewan Polytechnic that will explore opportunities to collaborate in academic, applied research and scholarly endeavors. “It’s an opportunity for us to partner with the medical clinic and with the James Smith Cree Nation to put on training program so that there will be an education opponent here where our students will actually get the opportunity to work in a real live clinical setting.” That’s from Dr. Larry Rosia, the President and CEO of Sask Polytech. The new medical clinic will be located in the Market Mall food court area.
