Even as rail-lines finally reopen between Vancouver and Kamloops, southern BC is preparing for at least two more rain events in the coming days.
Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley could receive as much as 80 millimetres, or more than three inches, by Friday morning.
Environment Canada says on the west side of Vancouver Island 100 to 150 millimetres of rain is expected and has already begun. The national weather forecaster also states that the ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall.
Meantime, on the other side of the country, torrential rain has washed out roads and flooded basements in western Cape Breton and southwest Newfoundland. Social media is showing photos of many roads badly damaged by flood. Port au Basques in Newfoundland recorded 165.1 millimetres of rain, a two day total, breaking an all time record. In Cape Breton, Inginosh River recorded 278.4 millimetres of rain while further south on Cape Breton Island the Sydney Airport recorded 126.7 millimetres. Halifax Airport recorded 69.4 millimetres of rain.
