A driver who had recently cross the border into Canada from the United States was clocked at 202 kilometres per hour on Highway 1 near Wolsley on Tuesday by a Broadview Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan RCMP officer. A news release from the RCMP says the officer double checked the radar to make sure it was working properly, and it was.
After stopping the vehicle, the officer learned the driver had recently entered Canada and was confused by the speed, setting his cruise control to 110, but that was miles per hour, not kilometres per hour. The release suggests the officer demonstrated a friendly, some may say stereotypically Canadian attitude, and focused primarily on education versus fining the driver the full $2,055 speeding ticket. The officer noted, “It’s not always about enforcement. Sometimes education is the appropriate response.”
