The United Way of Saskatoon and Area switched things up and put a winter twist on one of their annual events earlier this week. The charity hosted their first ever Day of Caring – Winter Edition. The day partners local businesses with community agencies to lend a helping hand in accomplishing some special projects. This past Wednesday, Saskatchewan Blue Cross partnered with the Global Gathering Place to help renovate and re-paint their office space in addition to decorating for Christmas and organizing Christmas kits for newcomers. Benson says PCL also helped Crocus Co-op to re-paint their kitchen. Typically the annual spring event happens in June. Benson says they had to postpone some events over the course of the pandemic so they figured they would provide an opportunity for people to get together. The pandemic has also forced the United Way to think creatively says Benson. She says volunteers now wear masks and are making sure they’re volunteering in small groups.
