The provincial government and the Wakamow Valley Authority have renamed the River Park Campground and a section of the River Park Walking Trail in Moose Jaw after former Premier Lorne Calvert.
Wakamow Valley Authority General manager Todd John calls it a small gesture, but one the board hopes will carry on Premier Calvert’s legacy.
Calvert says he is deeply grateful to the WVA and the provincial government for attaching his name to the campground and trail section.
He considers it particularly meaningful because of all the time his family has spent in the valley.
Calvert served as MLA for Moose Jaw Wakamow, formerly Moose Jaw South from 1986 to 1999.
During that time, he served as Minister of Health and Minister of Social Services.
In 2001, Calvert was elected MLA for Saskatoon Riversdale and served as Saskatchewan’s Premier until 2007.
The naming is in keeping with the Government of Saskatchewan’s Building/Landmark Dedication Policy.
