Saskatchewan is reporting 71 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today (thurs). Saskatoon accounted for 13 of the new infections while the Central East zone tallied 12 new cases. As of Thursday, there are 134 people in hospital for COVID with 35 in intensive care. There are also an additional four Saskatchewan residents receiving care in ICUs outside of the province. Once new death was reported in Thursday’s update bringing the total to 928 Saskatchewan residents who have died after testing positive for the novel coronavirus. The seven-day average for new cases is at 68.
Below are the highlights posted to the Government of Saskatchewan’s website:
- As of December 2nd, there are 71 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 81,145 reported cases.
- The new cases are located in the Far North West (3), Far North East (2), North West (11), North Central (5), North East (3), Saskatoon (13), Central East (12), Regina (8), South West (1), South Central (2) and South East (10) zones and one (1) new case has pending residence information.
- Two (2) cases with pending residence information were assigned to the Central East (from November 29 (2)) zone
- 81,145 cases are confirmed
- 19,813 cases are from the North area (8,812 North West, 8,164 North Central, 2,837 North East)
- 19,344 cases are from the Saskatoon area
- 15,850 cases are from the Regina area
- 10,188 cases are from the South area (2,191 South West, 2,974 South Central, 5,023 South East)
- 9,352 cases are from the Far North area (4,397 Far North West, 541 Far North Central, 4,414 Far North East)
- 6,066 cases are from the Central area (1,437 Central West, 4,629 Central East)
- 532 cases have pending residence information
- 733 cases are considered active and 79,484 cases are considered recovered
- Almost one-third (31.0%) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39
- Almost one-third (31.9%) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 5 years and older) were fully vaccinated
- As of December 2nd, a total of 134 individuals are hospitalized, including 99 inpatient hospitalizations and 35 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 134 patients, 90 (67.2%) were not fully vaccinated.
- In addition to SK ICU counts, there are four residents receiving out of province care in hospital. As these patients are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in the dashboard.
- One (1) new death reported today. 928 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died, with a case fatality rate of 1.1%.
- 1,282,024 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of November 30, 2021, when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 1,082,163 tests performed per million. The national rate was 1,278,446 tests performed per million population.
- The 7-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers was 68 (5.7 new cases per 100,000).
