It’s not the same as past years, because of the pandemic, but the efforts to fundraise and collect toys for families in need continues for the CJWW Denny Carr Secret Santa campaign.
Board Chair of the Secret Santa Foundation, Vic Dubois, explains that last year, volunteers didn’t hand out the hampers.
Instead gift cards were given to The Salvation Army to hand out.
The Salvation Army is the organization that assigns the 800 families to the Secret Santa Foundation.
Dubois adds that more families are helped directly by the Salvation Army through its Christmas Kettle campaign.
It’s a partnership that has been going on for many years, Dubois says.
This year, a few of the live events aren’t happening, like the official launch at City Hall and the Carolling Firefighters going door-to-door to businesses looking for donations, but it’s back to new, unwrapped toys being accepted at various locations throughout the city, including CJWW.
It was 38 years ago when radio personality Denny Carr began the efforts to make sure no child is without a new toy at Christmas.
Cash donations are very much appreciated and can be dropped off year round at CJWW Radio at 219 Robin Crescent, or you can donate on-line through CanadaHelps.org.
