December 6th in Canada has a special but grim significance. It is the day we mark The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
That day was chosen after 14 women were murdered in 1989 at l’Ecole Polytechnique Montréal. They were shot and the perpetrator of the tragedy did so, he said, to fight feminism.
Canadians are encouraged to observe a minute of silence on December 6 and to wear a white or a purple ribbon to show their support.
This is the 32nd anniversary of the December 6th shooting rampage.
Flags at all City of Saskatoon facilities, and all federal buildings, will be lowered for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. The day was established in 1991 and is an opportunity for Canadians to remember all women and girls who have died as a result of violence.
