The unexpected and sudden departure of the Saskatchewan Health Authority C-E-O Scott Livingstone was a hot topic during Monday’s Question Period at the Legislature.

N-D-P Leader Ryan Meili says the circumstances of Livingstone’s departure are unusual and the province deserves answers from the government. Meili asked the Premier if the sudden switch of management of the pandemic from the S-H-A to the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre was a reason for Livingstone resignation.

“SHA leadership discovered that on that same day. They weren’t even part of the discussion, they weren’t part of that plan Mr. Speaker. Did the sudden dismissal of the SHA from that primary role in pandemic management did that have anything to do with Mr. Livingstone leaving his position?”

Premier Scott Moe responded that the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre has been very useful in handling the pandemic. Moe added that the Livingstone departure was a resignation.

Saskatchewan’s official opposition suggests that among the many questions remain unanswered regarding the reasons behind the resignation of Scott Livingstone is why the news wasn’t shared with the public for well over a week.

The news of Livingstone resigning follows the further loss of Suann Laurent, the Chief Operating Officer of the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

That was a position Livingstone held in an acting role since her departure. The NDP says the loss of two of the most senior members of the SHA within weeks of each other raises serious questions and concerns about the pressure SHA executives are under.
