The Saskatoon Fire Department says damage after a fire at the Lighthouse Supported Living is not as much as previously thought. Damage is now estimated at $40,000 not the $150,000 originally suggested.
The call came in at 3:19 a.m. and when fire crews arrived, occupants of the third floor were evacuating due to a fire in a suite on that floor. The fire has been deemed accidental due to improper disposal of smoking material but it did activate the sprinkler system which has caused water damage mainly to ceiling tiles.
There was heavy smoke but low heat from the fire and firefighters finished extinguishing the blaze.
No residents will be displaced as a result of this incident. The Lighthouse will accommodate the occupant of the damaged suite where clean-up is currently underway and the suite is expected to be fit for occupancy by early next week.
