The Saskatoon Fire Department is currently in the process of testing and monitoring ice thickness at storm water retention ponds in the city to ensure they are safe for recreational use. A news release from the fire department says the ice must reach a minimum thickness of at least eight inches to be considered safe for public recreational use. As the weather sporadically warms and cools, the SFD would like to caution the public of changing ice conditions. Those who intend to use the ponds are reminded to check the posted signage each time they use the ice.
