The permanent amphitheatre, bar and concession, box office and dressing rooms for the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan site will be ready for next year’s season, which will begin earlier than usual. Marketing and Development Director, Alan Long, says the run will begin with school matinee shows June 15th to 19th and then the regular season begins June 18th, as opposed to usually beginning after the July long weekend. Long explains that because they no longer have to set up all the different areas or tear them down at the end of the season, they can extend the run and include the school matinees. Next year’s plays are Macbeth and The Tempest, and Long says the magical quality of these shows will highlight the new technical capabilities of the venue. The extended run means the ability to take a break in the middle of the run for other groups to hold events on site, whether for a day or more, or the whole week.
The call for proposals is now available on Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan’s website for those that might want to use the site next summer.
