Saskatchewan’s Opposition NDP leader says this province, due to decision making or lack thereof by the Sask. Party government, is an outlier among provinces when it comes to implementing further restrictions to combat the spread of the omicron variant of COVID-19.

In a news release Tuesday, Ryan Meili called on Premier Scott Moe to show leadership ahead of further holiday gatherings.

“We’re seeing the Omicron variant take off in Saskatchewan and leadership is nowhere to be found. We can’t expect COVID to adhere to the Premier’s holiday schedule.”

Meili says the number of Omicron cases has gone from 10 to a total of a suspected 824 in 10 days.

He suggests looking to other provinces and how Omicron has spread there especially in light of Saskatchewan having the lowest vaccination rate.  He suggests that if it spreads as rapidly as it has elsewhere it would be devastating to the health care system.
