On a night when something had to give, Medicine Hat continued to streak while Saskatoon’s positive runs came to an end.
The Tigers scored all their goals in the first 10 minutes of the second period and coasted to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Blades. The result upped the Bengals’ winning streak to four games and extended their run of games getting at least one point in the standings to six (5-0-1). For the Bridge City Bunch, now 7-4-1 overall, their four-game winning streak and run of seven games (6-0-1) of picking up points in the standings came to an end.
“We’re a little bit disappointed in our effort (Tuesday) night,” said associate coach Ryan Marsh. “I thought we were a step behind the Tigers. They’re a really good team that’s fast, very competitive and they didn’t give us a lot of time and space. If we had a re-do, we’d probably like to do that second (period) over again. We had a couple of breakdowns and instead of forcing them to chase us, they got ahead and that forced us to chase them. A little bit of fatigue as well, but credit to them, they played a really good game and executed well.”
Zach Huber potted the lone Blue and Gold on a third period power play. Nolan Maier was solid in goal for the Blades as they were out-shot 51-25 by the Tigers (8-2-1). Saskatoon, also, killed off all five Medicine Hat power play chances, extended the Bridge City Bunch’s run of consecutive successful penalty kill situations to 30 over the last seven-plus games. The Blue and Gold are off until the weekend when they play games Saturday and Sunday in Winnipeg against the ICE. Following is the official game summary from the W-H-L…
