United Way of Saskatoon and Area has donated $65,000 to the Saskatoon Tribal Council’s Emergency Wellness Centre which opened in downtown Saskatoon on December 15th. The Centre offers shelter and mental wellness supports to those who are experiencing homelessness.

United Way CEO, Sheri Benson says she is thankful to community leaders such as the Saskatoon Tribal Council for addressing the immediate needs of Saskatoon’s most vulnerable, especially during the frigid winter months. Benson hopes that by coming onboard as a funder, the United Way will inspire others to help.

STC Tribal Chief, Mark Arcand, says, “Donations from community partners provide a solution that goes a long way in ensuring we help as many relatives as possible.” A news release from the two organizations says the Emergency Wellness Centre has been at or slightly over capacity since it opened, supporting 50 to 56 people a day. People come from off the streets and from other shelters that are over capacity.
