Over 10,000 new affordable housing units will be created across the country through the federal government’s Rapid Housing Initiative. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced today (Fri) that this exceeds the initial goal of 7,500 units. A third of the units are for women or women and their children, and more than third will assist Indigenous People. The federal government has promised $2.5-billion for this Rapid Housing Initiative. It’s delivered by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), under the National Housing Strategy (NHS).
