Saskatchewan’s Sergeant-at-Arms, Terry Quinn has resigned. Last November the provincial government introduced a bill which would make the Sergeant-at-Arms more of a ceremonial role. The government would then hire a security director to handle any security at the Legislature and on the grounds, other than in the Chamber.

NDP Justice Critic, Nicole Sarauer, thanks Quinn for his dedicated service, saying the job of Sergeant-at-Arms is both challenging and demanding. She notes the resignation comes after the introduction of Bill 70 which removes the independence of the Legislative security, something she considers a troubling pattern from this government. Sarauer points to former Saskatchewan Health Authority President and CEO, Scott Livingstone, who she suggests is no longer in the position because of political interference.
