The final daily COVID-19 dashboard update on a weekday from the Government of Saskatchewan website showed less than 10-thousand active cases of the novel coronavirus for the first time since January 13.
Plus, the hospitalization number in the province went down by 21 to 363, including 34 infections being treated in an I-C-U. There are 9,981 active cases of COVID-19 following 770 new cases, 1,057 recoveries and four new virus-related deaths in Saskatchewan in Friday’s update. Of the 329 inpatient hospitalizations: 133 are a COVID-19-related illness, 179 are incidental COVID-19 infections and 17 have not yet been determined. Of the 34 I-C-U patients: 23 are for COVID-19-related illnesses and 10 are for incidental COVID-19 infections. One is in a pediatric/neonatal I-C-U for COVID-19-related illnesses.
Highlights
- As of February 4th, there are 770 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 121,516 reported cases
- The new cases are located in the Far North West (26), Far North East (23), North West (53), North Central (87), North East (26), Saskatoon (139), Central West (13), Central East (32), Regina (122), South West (19), South Central (80), and South East (55) zones and 95 new cases have pending residence information
- 140 cases with pending residence information were assigned to the Far North West (2), Far North East (1), North West (47), North Central (24), North East (1), Saskatoon (17), Central West (2), Central East (5), Regina (26), South West (3), South Central (8), and South East (4) zones. - As of February 4th, a total of 363 individuals are hospitalized, including 329 inpatient hospitalizations and 34 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 363 patients, 139 (38.3%) were not fully vaccinated.

- Four (4) new deaths reported today. A total of 1,005 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died, with a case fatality rate of 0.8%.
- 1,448,157 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of February 2, 2022, when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 1,220,170 tests performed per million. The national rate was 1,482,779 tests performed per million.
- The 7-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers was 867 (72.0 new cases per 100,000).

Note that the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory is reporting that 95 per cent of new cases are Omicron cases, based on SNP testing. Based on this percentage, it is assumed that all new COVID-19 cases in the province are Omicron and the RRPL will cease performing SNP testing on new samples. All specimens from international travellers who test positive in Saskatchewan will continue to undergo whole genome sequencing to determine their lineage, as well as randomly selected cases from across the province to continue surveillance of circulating virus.
* As of September 13, 2021, the province of Saskatchewan ceased testing for variant type on all new cases using SNP in order to support overall COVID-19 testing. Whole genome sequencing will continue to identify any emerging variants. Note that, as public health investigations proceed, variant of concern case locations may change due as residence locations are confirmed.
