The Saskatoon Fire Department was able to get back in to the house in the 300 block of 109th Street West where there was a dangerous flash over event on January 30th, leading firefighters to find safe haven in a bedroom and then sending a “mayday” alert. A ladder was brought to the bedroom window and the two firefighters were able to get out without injury.
Because of the condition of the home, the Fire Investigator wasn’t able to get inside to figure out the origin and cause at the time. The Fire Department now says the house fire originated in the service/furnace room, and the cause was accidental, due to combustibles being too close to the water heater. The combustible material was ignited by the flame of the water heater.
