Checking the highway hotline would be an absolute must after rain overnight and continuing today in Saskatchewan.

Pierceland RCMP say icy roads have lead to many vehicles in the ditch on Highway #55 and Highway #4.

RCMP are asking motorists to stay off of Highway#55, especially between Peerless and Meadow Lake and in the vicinity of Golden Ridge, and Highway #4, south of Meadow Lake between Glaslyn and Meadow Lake.

They say the roads are ice-covered with multiple vehicles, including semis and passenger vehicles, having slid into the ditches in these areas. Vehicles are having difficulty traveling up the other side of the valley hill. No injuries have been reported to police at this time.

Highway 11 remains closed north of Girvin in the northbound lanes.  There were multiple vehicles involved in accidents including several semis with passenger vehicles sliding down the highway and social media shows footage of what appears to be a tractor trailer on fire.

Saskatoon has experienced several hours of rain leaving streets and sidewalks wet and icy this morning. Priority streets that have been snow graded are wet with slippery spots ; however, streets with packed snow are ice covered and glacial. Walking or driving , you will need extra time and extreme caution.

The City of Saskatoon says City sanders were out all night and 16 units are actively applying salt and sand, focusing on major streets, bridge decks and intersections.
