Walk like a penguin. That’s the advice from the City of Saskatoon with both freezing and thawing in the forecast, leading to possible precarious conditions on the sidewalks and roads. A PSA from the City suggests walking like a penguin can help prevent a fall. Take small stepts and maintain a shoulder-width foot separation with your toes angled outwards.
The City also urges everyone to be a good neighbour by clearing your sidewalk within 48 hours of any snow, ice, or debris builds up. If your sidewalk is icy, the advice is to chip at it during the day when it is soft and easier to break. You can also use sand or salt to increase traction, and/or melt the ice. When clearing the snow, keep it in your yard to keep drains and curbs clear.
