SaskPower has applied for approval of a rate increase of four per cent this year and another four per cent in 2023. It would be the first increase in four years.

If approved by the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel, it would mean an average increase of about $5 a month for residential customers as of September 1st and another $5 as of April of next year.

Interim President and CEO of SaskPower, Troy King, says they worked hard to avoid rate increases in recent years, but additional funding is needed to increase renewable generation, to modernize the power system, and ensure a sustainable future.
