This morning (Tues), Saskatoon’s Governance and Priorities Committee recommended continuing the current approach to masking on Saskatoon Transit, after the provincial public health orders are lifted next Monday. That means rather than operators having to enforce the city’s masking policy, Transit will continue with mask education through signage and interior and exterior announcements on each bus, and free masks will continue to be available.

Administration has been directed to submit a report to City Council with this recommendation, and to report weekly on mask-related compliance and any negative interactions. The masking policy will regularly be reassessed.

While the province is lifting the masking mandate as of February 28th, the City of Saskatoon will still require masks at all of its indoor facilities and services. Originally, Administration had recommended that Transit not be included because it would be challenging to enforce. City Council approved keeping the masking policy at a special meeting earlier this month.
