Blue Hills RCMP say a two vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada in Manitoba claimed the life of a Saskatchewan man.

On Monday, officers were called out to a two vehicle collision, about 50 kilometres east of Brandon, Manitoba on Highway 1 at 10:20 am. after a semi and an SUV collided.

Police report that the debris from the collision stretched almost a full kilometre on the Trans-Canada. A semi-trailer was facing west on the shoulder of the westbound lane while a white SUV was on its roof on the shoulder.

The driver and lone occupant of the semi-trailer, a 54-year-old male from Calgary, Alberta, was treated on scene for minor injuries. The 42-year-old male driver and lone occupant of the SUV, from White Bear First Nation, Saskatchewan, was deceased on scene.

Initial investigation has determined that the semi-trailer was travelling at a reduced rate of speed due to winter road conditions in the westbound lane of Highway 1. RCMP say the SUV was travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound in the westbound lane. The semi-trailer was able to get partly to the shoulder, but the SUV collided with the trailer. RCMP say they had reports of the SUV driving erratically in the area prior to the crash.
