Saskatoon’s downtown library will re-open to in person visits on Monday, but only the main floor will be accessible.
Earlier this month, the Saskatoon Public Library paused in-person services at its two more central branches earlier this month – the Frances Morrison Central Library and the Dr. Freda Ahenakew Library.
The SPL said on its website the two libraries would have contactless service only while looking at solutions for providing a safe, harassment-free environment for patrons and employees.
At the time, a CUPE spokesperson, Rhonda Heisler, said workers were being exposed to abuses even before the pandemic, and this is not a situation just happening in Saskatoon.
The Dr. Freda Ahenakew branch on Avenue K South won’t have any access restrictions, and with no more provincial mandates as of Monday, none of the libraries will require masking.
However, a statement on the SPL website says it is encouraged, and employees will continue to mask.

The library is following a five-step plan to reopen gradually.

The downtown branch will provide some children’s material on the main floor due to the closure of the second floor which houses children’s books. The Frances Morrison branch will also have limited seating. Room rentals, in-person programs and toys will not be available at both locations for the time being.
