The Saskatoon Police Service investigation into an RCMP officer involved shooting in February has determined the officer was struck in the head by a bullet, but there are no other details or updates on the officer’s condition, other than it was a non life threatening injury. The officer, a member of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services, was part of the Critical Incident Response Team assisting with a search warrant at a commercial property in Waseca in a drug trafficking investigation.

The Battlefords RCMP Gang Task Force was investigating drug and weapons trafficking in west-central Saskatchewan. On February 27th, a search warrant was executed in Waseca. After negotiation, two men and a woman left the building and were taking into custody but the fourth didn’t comply with commands. Police allege that as he left the building, he still wasn’t complying. RCMP used non-lethal methods, and then police report that he displayed a firearm. There was an exchange of gunfire and a 33 year old man was fatally injured.

There were three search warrants executed in this investigation, with two in Lloydminster and one in Waseca. Officers seized nine firearms, multiple prohibited weapons, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, hard body armour, and about four ounces each of suspected cocaine and meth, among other items.

From the Lloydminster search warrants, 25 year old Laquita Angus is facing drug trafficking and weapons charges, and 18 year old Delaney Angus is facing resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer charges. Twenty year old Odell Angus was arrested on warrants from the Turtleford RCMP.
