Understanding that not everyone can afford a lawyer, the kick-off to Saskatchewan Access to Justice Week was a free legal resources fair and trade show at the Frances Morrison Library on Sunday. Access to Justice coordinator, Brea Lowenberger says there were opportunities for free legal information and chances to meet with a volunteer lawyer to discuss family law issues.
The week continues with free legal clinics throughout the province covering court processes, mediation and child support recalculations. Lowenberger says the idea of legal coaching will be discussed at various events in the province as well. She describes it as when a lawyer works with a client behind the scenes and the client takes on a more active role in their case. When lawyers have a client that takes on certain parts of a case or is more involved in the process, research shows clients are more satisfied with the service they receive and their outcome.
