It was two years ago Friday that the World Health Organization declared COVID-19’s spread across the world a pandemic. The Director-General, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus told the world on that day that the WHO was deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction. That’s why the assessment was made to characterize COVID-19 as a pandemic.

In his opening remarks two years ago, the Director General stated, “This is not just a public health crisis, it is a crisis that will touch every sector, so every sector and every individual must be involved in the fight.”

Over 11-hundred Saskatchewan residents who contracted the virus have died since the pandemic was declared.  In their honour, and for the loved ones who mourn them, there will be a vigil in front of the Legislative Assembly on Saturday afternoon, with spiritual leaders of various faiths offering prayers.
