Russian troops have attacked a mosque sheltering 80 people in the port city of Mariupol. Meanwhile fighting continues on the outskirts of Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital. It’s said an ammunition depot outside the capital city was bombed throughout the night, sending black smoke into the sky as air raid sirens continue to ring on in the capital region. Approximately 130 US soldiers were deployed to Europe yesterday to join thousands already overseas who are assisting NATO allies.

Since Russia’s invasion, the World Health Organization says at least two dozen hospitals and medical facilities have been targeted. Heavy artillery damaged a cancer hospital and a number of other buildings in  Mykolaiv, a city 489 kilometres west of Mariupol.

Meanwhile, The Associated Press is reporting that Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich has been banned by the Premier League from running Chelsea. The league board’s decision to disqualify Abramovich ends his 19 years in control of the west London team. This decision won’t directly impact the players. The Russian oligarch had announced his intentions to sell Chelsea last week. This comes as Abramovich was sanctioned by Canada and the United Kingdom. Abramovich has stakes in Evraz Steel which operates a mill in Regina. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said new sanctions against the Russian oligarch should not impact Evraz or its employees.
