It’s 21 days or three weeks since the start of the invasion of Ukraine by neighouring Russia and Angus Reid surveyed Canadians on their thoughts around the conflict.

According to the non-profit pollster, four in five who were surveyed says they support sending humanitarian aid. Sixty-eight per cent support broad economic sanctions while two thirds support targeted sanctions. And 61 per cent support providing both defensive weapons as well as intelligence and cybersecurity support.

However, only half support Canada sending military hardware and weapons to Ukraine and two in five say Canada should advocate for Ukraine to join NATO. A third want the government to provide money to directly fund Ukraine’s defence and about the same number want to see an increase in the size of Canada’s training missing in Ukraine.

Only 16 per cent, however, believe Canadian troops should be sent into the battle zone to fight alongside Ukrainian forces.
