Saskatoon Roadways Director Goran Saric says it would be great if residents with a catch basin adjacent to their property could make a drainage path or open a catch basin. Sometimes there is heavy ice in a catch basin which needs to be reported to the City so they can get specialized equipment out to deal with it.
Saric says so far this spring the amount of water backing up on roadways due to catch basins being plugged has been pretty typical.
He says they are aware of those potential locations and look at them prior to spring melt, inspect, monitor and have their crews ready to respond. If you have water backed up over a roadway in your neighbourhood you can call 306-975-2476. The phone line is staffed 24/7.
Saric says city-wide there are about 14-thousand catch basins and only a small portion of those have problems
