The City’s Governance and Priorities Monday will determine how to save the City of Saskatoon some money.

City staff have laid out some options for the mayor and councillors to decide on including deferring new hires and training sessions for staff. City administration expects this move could save the City approximately $2.25 million dollars.

To achieve another $4.2 million dollars in savings, the City suggests taking a higher share of revenue from the water utility and or reducing contributions to a special events fund along with redirecting funds left over from capital projects that would otherwise end up in reserve funds. This comes as council elected to target a $7 million spending reduction during budget deliberations.

The committee will also look at adding a representative from the province to the advisory group for the proposed downtown arena. The report from City staff says the province has requested they have a voting member at the table.
