The Saskatoon Police Service is offering a firearm amnesty program. This is the first time in three years because the program was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Starting today(mon) and running until April 10th, those looking safely dispose of their unwanted or illegal firearms can do so by calling the non-emergency police line.

Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police (SACP) sponsors the program with the intent to lower the risk of violent offences involving firearms by safely collecting and disposing of unwanted firearms that may, otherwise fall into the hands of criminals through break & enters or accidental loss.

The Amnesty also extends to replica or imitation firearms, and any unwanted ammunition or parts of firearms.

Police Chief Troy Cooper says in 2019, the service received 74 firearms and 85 boxes of ammunition. The non-emergency line in Saskatoon is (306)-975-8300.

In addition to the Saskatchewan RCMP and the Ministry of the Environment, the following municipal police services will be participating; Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Estevan, Weyburn, File Hills First Nations, and Wilton.
