The Government of Canada and the European Commission have announced the launch of a global campaign to raise funds to support those fleeing the invasion of Ukraine.

The “Stand Up for Ukraine” campaign is in partnership with the international advocacy organization Global Citizen.

The campaign aims to mobilize governments, institutions, artists, companies and individuals to direct funding to support the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.

A news release from the Prime Ministers Office says Global Citizen will announce more details in the coming days on how people can support. The release adds the “Stand Up for Ukraine” campaign will culminate in a pledging event on April 9th co-hosted by the President of the European Commission and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The goal is to raise funds and mobilize support more broadly, to help those in need who are internally displaced in Ukraine and those who have become refugees due to the conflict.

Meanwhile, authorities in Ukraine say residents of the northern city of Chernihiv are without power, heat and water after Russian troops took out bridges, cutting off the city from services. The UN is reporting that at least 1,035 civilians have died and 1,650 have been wounded since the war broke out a month ago.
