A distinctively designed police vehicle will be cruising the streets hoping to reduce organized crime activity in Saskatoon.

The Drop Gangs program aims to discourage people from joining a gang or help current members looking to exit the gang lifestyle.

The vehicle will serve as a rolling billboard offering multiple resources.

“The website name will be on the vehicle that will show up at various events throughout the year,” said Sergeant Dave Larocque. “It could be parades, barbeques or maybe events put together by organized crime groups.”

The vehicle will be available on request for educational purposes and may be on the scene for warrant executions where gangs, drugs and organized crime are involved.

“We have seen other programs, particularly in British Columbia, that have been very successful,” said Patrick Nogier, Superintendent of Criminal Investigations Division. “We are fortunate to be able to partner with them to share information and resources with our own community here in Saskatoon.”

The program and vehicle purchase was made possible through a successful application to the province’s civil forfeiture fund through The Seizure of Criminal Property Act, 2009.
