In the week leading up to March 23rd, the viral RNA load for COVID-19 in Saskatoon’s wastewater has gone down by over 74 per cent, compared to the weekly average from the previous week. The largest majority of the virus at almost 79 per cent is the Omicron variant BA-2, and the rest is Omicron.

The Viral RNA load in Prince Albert’s wastewater went down by almost 92 per cent in the week leading p to March 21st. Like Saskatoon, the majority is the Omicron variant BA-2, at just over 81 per cent, and the rest is Omicron. North Battleford also has a decrease of viral RNA load of 56 per cent, for the week leading up to March 18th. The majority of the virus at just under 69 per cent is Omicron BA-2 and the rest is Omicron.

No other COVID variants were found in any of these three cities. The numbers come from USask’s Global Institute for Water Security. The website says the decrease could mean a decrease in the number of cases of COVID-19 in the following seven to ten days, but in a partially vaccinated population, any decrease or rise the wastewater may not be reflected in the case numbers.
