The federal budget will be delivered on Thursday, April 7th.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland made the announcement on Tuesday in Parliament.

The budget is expected to include measures to spur economic growth as well as address NDP priorities of national pharmacare and dental care programs. Both were part of an agreement reached with the New Democrats in exchange for support in key parliamentary votes.

The Liberals may have extra spending room to absorb the new programs, thanks to higher oil prices that are expected to pad the government’s bottom line.

The latest economic update issued in December projected a deficit of $144.5 billion for 2021-22 and $58.4 billion for 2022-23.
