Official Opposition Finance Critic Trent Wotherspoon introduced an Emergency Motion at the Legislative Assembly today (Thurs), in light of the rising cost of gas. The motion calls on the government to suspend or rebate provincial fuel tax collection for the first quarter of this fiscal year. The Sask Party government voted against it. Wotherspoon says, “Saskatchewan families are stretched and struggling as they face crushing cost of living increases. While this government has windfall revenues as a result of soaring resource prices, they have so far chosen not to act.”

NDP Leader Ryan Meili says, “This government has been given ample opportunities to step up, show some leadership and help the many families struggling with gas and groceries. Time and time again, they’ve shown that they’re out of touch with the realities facing Saskatchewan people.”
