A delayed Winterruption kicks-off with concerts and some outdoor activities this weekend.

Originally, the event was set to take place in January but was postponed to the spring due to rising COVID numbers.

Now as the snow melts away and the warmer weather settles in, the Broadway area will play host to a number of concerts and live entertainment over the next week and a half.

Holly Gilroy, one of the organizers of Winterruption says tomorrow (sat) will see free outdoor entertainment at Oskayak High School from noon until 10 p.m.

She says there will be a tipi raising to kick things off. Later in the day there will be storytelling and at 5 o’clock there will be fiddle music around a fire.

Gilroy adds they weren’t able to bring back everyone from the original dates, although a lot of acts were able to accommodate the schedule change.

“A few of them unfortunately couldn’t make it, just couldn’t get it to work with all of the other Winterruptions, we had to coordinate with all of them so that artists were still able to so Winterruption in a tour format.”

The organizer says a number of acts were able to accommodate the schedule change into their tours and those with Winterruption are looking forward to their performances from now until April 10th.

Everything from Drag to live-music can be experienced over the next week and a half at the Broadway Theatre and Amigos among other venues.
