The Town of Maple Creek has issued a Mandatory Water Restriction for all users of the town’s water supply system. The water treatment facility lost power and SaskPower was estimating it would be a minimum of 24 hours to repair. Without power the Water Treatment Plant can’t treat water to maintain a supply.

Those on the Town of Maple Creek water supply are asked not to use any unnecessary large quantities of water such as dishwasher, baths, showers, laundry, even flushing of toilets.

The southwest has been reporting highway restrictions and closures around Maple Creek, Consul and Shaunavon due to heavy snow and icy conditions. SaskPower has tweeted that broken poles and lines are down and there have been power outages in the Val Marie, Frontier, Simmie, Bracken, Climax, Gull Lake, Bone Creek & Duncairn Dam, Eastend, Robsart, Consul, Tompkins, and Piapot areas.

There is also a wind warning for most of the areas mentioned in the power outages where they have been experiencing strong northwest winds with gusts of 90 km/h. Environment Canada says these winds will last through the afternoon and diminish this evening.  As well, combined with heavy snow,  visibilities may become reduced at times.
